In this webinar, we will explore how to move beyond disconnected images and begin creating a more cohesive, intentional photography practice. Through the story of Barbas del Diablo, a self-published photography book, we will examine the creative process from fieldwork and visual development to sequencing, book design, and fine-art printing. We will also look at ongoing projects, including long-term explorations of the Serra do Gerês and the coastal rhythms of Echoes of the Tides, to discover how experience, place, and artistic intention continue to shape new work. Drawing on his background in biology and years of working intimately with the landscapes he photographs, our guest will share practical insights into developing a distinctive visual language, finding continuity between images, and making creative decisions that extend beyond a single photograph. Driven by a deep passion for the natural world, I transitioned from academia, where I earned a PhD in Biology, to full-time nature photography in 2019. My work focuses on intimate landscapes in places I know deeply, including the Serra do Gerês and the Picos da Europa. I embrace the entire creative process, from field planning and image-making to editing and fine-art printing. My dedication to the craft has earned me the title of Landscape Photographer of the Year in Portugal twice, in 2023 and 2025. I am also a regular speaker at leading photography events across Portugal, where I share my approach to landscape photography and creative practice. Today, I share my vision and experience through my YouTube channel, specialized workshops, and photographic expeditions.
