What We’ll Explore

What makes a photograph memorable is not always scale or spectacle. Often, it’s the ability to notice what others pass by. In this webinar, San Francisco–based landscape photographer Kavin Chawla explores his approach to finding meaning in overlooked subjects—from intimate coastal geology and shifting fog to subtle patterns woven throughout California’s wilderness. Kavin shares how patience, curiosity, and careful observation guide his creative process, along with the role that printing, simplicity, and thoughtful fieldwork play in shaping his photographs. Blending artistic sensitivity with a deep appreciation for technology and craft, his work invites photographers to slow down and discover quieter forms of visual storytelling. This presentation is an exploration of attention: how learning to see the unseen can lead to more personal and lasting photographs.
